I just hope Dungeon Crawler Carl doesn't end like Stranger Things

I’m halfway through Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 7 and starting to feel like the stakes just aren’t there anymore. I expected more of a Game of Thrones vibe, where anyone’s life could genuinely be on the line, like in the first four books. Now, though, it feels like Carl, Donut, and the main group always make it through with a few scars but no real consequences.

Maybe this changes in Book 8, idk. One reason I’ve never liked fantasy manhwa is that once the MC becomes OP, you know he and his entourage are going to make it, and everyone important survives. DCC is starting to feel a little like that, especially when plans keep working out or there’s always another backup plan.

Stranger Things left such a bad taste in my mouth because everyone kept surviving situations that felt impossible to survive, and I was hoping to avoid that here.

I don’t want tragedy for tragedy’s sake, but the plot armor is starting to feel too thick. I’m honestly wondering whether I should drop DCC until the series is finished.

Everyone seems to love DCC, though, so maybe I’m missing something or just came in with the wrong expectations.
