health insurance in abu dhabi cost comparison - go with takaful flexi not daman

Daman told me I couldnt get flexi as I was a past daman customer in the last 10 years (they dont mention this in the daman website, but i hope this will save you hours). So i then switched to flexi plan (by Takaful Emarat) by calling Takaful emarat. Call them on their website and tell them that you have abu dhabi investor visa and they will do it for you. you need passport, visa, continuity certificate.

Had to recently get health insurance, and i too was in the market for entry level coverage. Writing this up since there is limited info online about abu dhabi health insurance landscape. So the companies are Orient insurance, Sukoon Insurance (Renamed from Oman Insurance), AXA Gulf, GIG Gulf, Takaful Emarat, Adam Jee Insurance. I suggest anyone to call their hotline in their website if you are insurance hunting.

The list of authorized insurance providers in Abu Dhabi are here -> If you prefer to buy directly and not use brokers -> https://www.tamm.abudhabi/wb/doh/authorized-insurance-providers?lang=en

So my case was, I recently started a business in Abu Dhabi, had my Emirates ID and Visa already, and was Daman Basic customer for many years. But on investor visa, the cost increases to a lot. I am in the 20-40 age group with no pre-existing so I wanted basic coverage/package. I wanted Daman Flexi 750 Dhs but Daman told me they dont give flexi to people who have been Daman customer in the last 10 years. This is not mentioned in their website, as its outdated, which is why I am writing this out.

I then called every firm ass mentioned above. Flexi is not only offered by Daman. It is a just a plan type where you have to co-pay 20% (DOH and ADDED collaborated to come up with this), and any insurance company can introduce the flexi plan. Look at the schedule of benefits here for some of the plans and compare them by yourself, at base plan, the quality is very similar no matter the company. Uploaded the pdfs here https://daman-takafulemarat-flexi-and-base-plan.tiiny.site

BTW, If you do not want Flexi --> Daman (Daman Basic), Orient Insurance (Dont know the name of base plan), and Takaful Insurance (NextCare Bronze) all have the usual base plan at around 2,836 AED for Abu Dhabi investors. (for 20-40 year age group with no preexisting conditions)

Sukoon Insurance (renamed from Oman Insurance) is more expensive, with the lowest cost investor plan starting from around 5,000 AED. (for 20-40 year age group with no preexisting conditions)

I am in the 20–40 age range, so if you are as well, this is what you can expect. It took me a while to call all the Abu Dhabi insurance firms, so I am writing this down here for anyone in the future facing the same issues, as there is almost no clear information online about costs or Flexi options.

So in essence, if you are not a Daman customer, go with Daman Flexi, if you are, switch to Takaful Emarat. The normal insurance plans for Investor people in Abu Dhabi r quite high so the flexi plan initiative is a life changer for any SME owner starting out. Also, once your business is established you can switch to the base plan or most expensive plans as you want. Insurance is much cheaper in Dubai and Northern emirates, hopefully this becomes true in Abu Dhabi too.
