We often mistake infrastructure development as an indication of better economic prospects

WOW had to pause on this line. This reminded me of one of my friends stating that young people should not move to developed markets but emerging markets, since with high risk comes high returns. As in developed economies, the growth stagnates, as the low-hanging fruits have already been picked. Like the people who made it big here, came here when this was a desert, and they took the risk to invest here to build the infrastructure/construction companies/factories/etc, and then they benefitted from it. It could have backfired if this country ended up like its more volatile neighbors.

I think most people want to enjoy the upside without taking the risk but the market teaches us that's not possible. Gary Vee often points out that young people avoid risk, even though this is precisely the stage of life when taking risks makes the most sense, rather than chasing safety or stability. That said, since OP is married, I understand he has to filter advice through his own context. Still, great comment.
